DENR-ARMM CONDUCTS ASSESSMENT, EVALUATION AND VALIDATION ON THE STATUS OF OPERATION OF SR LANGUYAN MINING CORPORATION (SRLMC) MINING OPERATION AT LANGUYAN, TAWI-TAWI
A DENR-ARMM team led by OIC Director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Engr. Mohajirin T. Ali conducted an actual assessment, evaluation and validation on the status of SR Languyan Mining Corporation (SRLMC) on October 22 to 25, 2012 in Brgy. Tumbagaan and Adnin, Languyan, Tawi-Tawi. The team was accompanied by Datu Abdelwin Sangkula (Tawi-Tawi Alliance of Civil Society Organization), PENRO Jonel Monel (MMT Team Leader), Engr. Muriamin Mijuh (Anak Tabawan Association President-MMT Member) and two (2) representatives from Regional Port Management Authority (RPMA)-ARMM namely, Al-Habson H. Antao (Assistant Manager for operation) and Juanito P. Cataluna.
The team focused on the environmental impact and its mitigating measures, socio-economic development activities and rehabilitation programs. The team inspected the infrastructure, equipments, facilities, including the manpower of the company as well as its environmental measures. In so far as the socio-economic development concerns, the team inspected the installation of potable water system in the two (2) communities in the area, the electrification, rehabilitation of school buildings, site of the proposed barangay hall with recreation center, mosque and madrasah as well as model houses to be given to the beneficiaries in said communities who are directly affected by the project.
As a result, SRLMC signifies their commitment to implement the programs stipulated in their submitted Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program (EPEP) and Social Development and Management Program (SDMP). Therefore, continuance of its operation is recommended by the team.
